My painting of Fogland has captured the heart of the new owner of The Clouds Whispered of Rain. (Oil, 16x20in.)
This piece is about how I can see the weather moving across Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay, and pull that drama into a painting. As I worked on the canvas last fall and all through the winter, it became a meditation on the atmosphere revealing patterns of movement in the elements of air and water around me.
Relatively small changes in moisture, temperature and pressure give rise to the weather we experience. I learned from NOAA, an extremely valuable government agency, that water is only 0-4% of the composition of the atmosphere.
We feel changes in the atmosphere as they happen, and watching it all move slowly across the sky is completely captivating. Being by the ocean means almost anything can happen. A change in air mass creates a kind of weather improv that never repeats itself.
I am very happy this painting found someone who loves it and has brought it home. Artists need patrons who want art in their lives. The painting has gone to the home of Caitlin who now has the joy of seeing it daily. Art can give you a little something new each day- different light, a new place, a change in perspective or a change in you.
Caitlin was so happy she snapped this photo as soon as she arrived home- why not an outside viewing!

Thanks, Caitlin, for choosing this piece! It is a strong one and I know you will be glad again and again that it is yours. You have helped me to keep making new work, which is what art patrons always do.
