Portraits look at the physique as well as the character of the subject. An oil painted portrait takes time to construct, thereby conveying a sense of the subject over time. This time factoring in to the portrait means that I am able to absorb the character of a person and paint her/him more fully than I can from an instantaneous photo capture. For this reason, I do not work from photos.
