In homage to two great teachers- the artist Nicolas Poussin, who was studied by Paul Cezanne in his quest for an authentic heroic landscape, and the landscape itself- I submit the narrative landscape. These canvases are my take on the pastoral populated with people and their stories. I incorporate settings of mortality discovered in an idyllic landscape, love, desire and rumination, along with aspects of specific landscapes I have painted in New England and France. I am captivated by the immutability of rock formations in which are scattered boulders, crevices, fissures and break points that are evidence of time’s toll on even the most permanent of things in our world.
